Brandon came to visit GM Jhoon Rhee prior to going to acting school. He came up on Sunday and kind of hung out where couple of the black belts hung out. He asked questions about developing speed, most of all. He didn't seem to know a whole lot about martial arts. I believe he was eighteen.

Eddie Butcher

I competed in Burdyck's Battle of Baltimore backin '93 in the Continuous Fighting. There were five in the whole division including me. I wasn't sure who I had to fight but Eddie Butcher was a possibility. I'd consider him as a competitor since it was fate that I ended up fighting a FFKA North American Light-Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion, instead.

Back in the '80's Elsa and I talked about getting together to help prepare her for continuous fighting match between herself and Christina Bannon Rodrigues. Although our get together was not materialized, I did work with her on kickboxing & boxing.

I used to be one of the four members in the Jhoon Rhee National Demo Team. We used to travel with GM Rhee performing forms and doing sparring demonstrations.

James Franks [Professional Boxer; Featherweight]
Boxing
James beat local favorite from Craig Smith Kickboxing Gym, Nelson Lebron at the Golden Gloves event on three occasions. James also knocked out a fighter from Blackhawk Kickboxing by the name of Norman Green, giving up 22 pounds and with no fight experience. James eventually turned pro. Also sparred James during the time frame when James used to work with Doran Spivey, local professional boxer who has the NABA US Championship Title.

Worked in many capacity in my development. Awarded my Green Belt and 1st Degree Brown Belt. Also worked with me one summer back in early '80's.

Jeff Whisnant [2001 NAVPHIBASE Boxing Tournament 147 lb. Champion; 2001 NAVPHIBASE Boxing Tournament "Most Outstanding Boxer" Award.]

I trained Jeff for the NAVY boxing show. He won his division. Also he won a special award, the only one, out of 50 other contestants. I helped Jeff's other teammates in the command where the command ended up with the Championship.

Moved around with him per his request on two separate occasions in the '80's. I think at L.A.M.A. back in '82 and at either U.S. Open in Florida or Battle of Atlanta, bact in mid-eighties. He was a Natially rated fighter out of South Carolina.

LeRoy "Super Feet" Taylor [PKA World Lightweight Champion]

As with the case with Eddie Butcher, LeRoy Taylor was amongst the five that were in the division for us all to fight. The guy I fought might have been one of his fighters who was the FFKA North American Light Heavyweight Champion. LeRoy Taylor acknowledged after the fight that I did almost knock him out and extended invitation to come train with him.

I worked with Mark during his kickboxing days and after he fought several pro boxing matches. He solicited my help for his final fight which won him the NABC US Jr. Middleweight Championship Title.

Meredith Byrum [ACR Rough N' Rowdy Brawl Boxing Contest Champion. Women's Lightweight]
Boxing & Kickboxing
One of my top female fighters. She won the "Tough Women Boxing Contest" beating out all of the women Hampton Roads including all the local female boxer's in the area. Meredith also fought in a kickboxing match against one of Steve Mann's girls and won a unanimous decision..

I used to spar Mike Hess while he was coming up in kickboxing. I was the "speed" guy that kept him sharp. I helped him prepare for his KO win over Blackhawk Walters, who at the time went by Bubba Walters.

I used to spar Omar when he was rated point fighter. Also sparred him prior to him transitioning to kickboxing.

Pedro Smith

One of the fastest guys in Kickboxing. He fought under me in one event against Eastern Shore Karate Master Elton Trower's student. Like in Nick Henney's fight, they threw in the towel during the 3rd round. Pedro ended up moving to North Carolina.

Ralph Anderson [2008 NAVPHIBASE Super Heavyweight Runner-Up]
Boxing
A civilian in the NAVY, after about one month of training under his belt, Ralph competed in the NAVPHIBASE Boxint Tournament. He beat out a guy trained and seconded by the Seven Cities' Coach, Rob "Machine" Matley for his first fight. Ralp was the runner up in the Super Heavyweight Division.

Back in early '80's, Helen Chung told me that Ray was visiting Jeff Smith's studio and asked if I was interested in meeting up with him and sparring. I remember sparring others but I only remember sparring Ray.

Was in the same division at Battle of Atlanta Tournament. Out of all the people there, he spotted me sitting in the stands, came up to chat. We had conversation regarding Kickboxing afterwards. Once again, even though we didn't fight, I consider him as a competitor.

Willie "The Heat" Taylor [KICK World Welterweight Champion]
International Kickboxing
Among the people Taylor faced during his career were three former world champions -- William Joppy, Buddy McGirt and Frankie Randall. Willie had a Kickboxing Title shot that involved leg kicks. I offered to work in the capacity as a sparring partner but it never materialized. He did become the Champion of the World.

Xavier Randall [2008 VA/NC Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament Super Heavyweight Runner-Up]

Helped Xavier with fitness aspect of training helping him go down from 275 lb. to 201 lb. during the three year period. Help him secure a Runner-Up position at the 2008 Golden Gloves and used to spar with him to prepare for his competitions.
